Bucket List for LANZAROTE

The bucket list is a list of the things we would like to do/see/feel/experience before we die. It as a „Top 10 +” or a „Must see/do…” list. Lanzarote is not as popular and famous as Tenerife or Gran Canaria among the Canary Islands but I think it can change if people get to know that there are a lot of interesting things to see/do on this island. That is why I wrote this list and present some photos.

  • I spend the second winter half on this island but I am not such a tourist who spends here 1-2 weeks rather I am a tourist who lives here for 4 -5 months. So I have the time to discover and evaluate what is worth the visit.
  • I am not a local who is used to everything here, I see with fresh eyes.
  • And since I give information to my tourists about the sights I had to read a lot/I asked a lot/I searched a lot of information about Lanzarote.
  • Last reason why my list can be helpful is I am a keen discoverer, I don’t sit at home cooking (sometimes I do, ok see: Sicilian cooking class), but I rather go everywhere myself because I don’t believe others’ fairy tales: I want to see, I want to have proof, I want to experience and I want to live an active life.

So here is my BUCKET LIST for Lanzarote:

White Sandy Beaches on La Graciosa Island

Since I spend my second winter half on Lanzarote it is obvious that I should see La Graciosa.

I don’t think you heard about this Island only if you have spent some time on Lanzarote, not that popular like La Gomera from Tenerife… It is just 2 kilometers from Lanzarote. The name means ‘graceful’ in Spanish (I like the sound of it:).

The island is really tiny, 8 km 4 km and there are only 700 inhabitants. It even has a school and supermarkets, you can also hire bikes here.  There are almost no cars here only the jeeps waiting for toursists at the harbour to take them around the island

Visiting the Jardin de Cactus – Cactus Garden – in Lanzarote

The Cactus Garden (in Spanish Jardin de Cactus) is located at the town of Guatiza. It was designed by César Manrique, the island’s most influential artist.

There are more than 7,200 cactus plants with more than 1,100 different species even from countries like Mexico, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco or Peru. You can find here many different shapes, sizes, colours, in my opinion it is a photographers’ paradise to come here and spend some time taking pictures of huge 2-meter-tall ones to more unusual species.

10 photos to convince you to go to the Papagayo Beach

Papagayo Beach (Playa de Papagayo) is in the south of Lanzarote, it is one of the most popular beaches of the Island.

White sandy beaches & crystal clear water you can find here. The entrance to the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches is  3 EUR, there is enough parking place for a lot of visitors. There is a small restaurant on the hillside of the beach, from where there is a beautiful view over the bay. On foot you can walk to different secluded beaches, almost nobody is there so you won’t be disturbed at all. Many excursion ships come by, catamarans, sailing ships, you can take nice photos of ships too 🙂
