I was so lucky I could spend a whole summer in Taormina / Giardini Naxos in 2014. Taormina is (one of) the most beautiful city(ies) in Italy, it is a small treasure box. Everywhere you go you can find palaces from the 18th-19th centuries, shops with expensive souvenirs and fantastic restaurants.


Eating is important for the Italians, everyone knows it. The best food is Italian: Spaghetti Bolognese, Pizza Margherita, Cannelloni with Spinach and Ricotta, Focaccia, Bruschetta, Lasagne…etc I must finish because I am hungry right now and thinking about such amazing dishes would make me more hungry.

It is possible to go on a cooking course in Taormina in many restaurants, we with my team went to one of these to learn there some secrets only Italian cooks can know.

First we went to the market together to collect the fresh ingredients needed to our lunch.


The market was a small indoor one not far from the centre of Taormina, we could find there everything we needed.




Tomatoes, olives, aubergine, basil, fish and spices.

Then we went to the restaurant, where the cooking course took place. We met the chef of the restaurant and started cutting the ingredients, drinking wine and taking pictures 🙂


The starter was a special version of ratatouille, with aubergine, tomatoes, olives, raisins, tomato sauce and spices.




As Sophia Loren, my favourite actress said: “Everything you see I can owe to spaghetti”. So the next dish was pasta: The macaroni with tomato sauce and fresh basil we made ourselves. It is a tough job to form macaronis, it takes time, requires certain rolling skills 🙂





The tomato sauce was made of fresh tomatoes, so not the canned tomato sauces we used. It had an amazing taste 🙂



Next came the fish (which fish I don’t remember), with bay leaves, capers, vegetables, onions, leeks, potatoes and olive oil. Excellent as well…



After the tiring work (the cook did the cooking, we were watching and drinking wine and helped him a bit hehe) we deserved a break and the prize was to eat everything.




I am not here to write down the recipes because I don’t remember them and I am a great cook when I cook my favourite dish, the pasta with shrimps and cream sauce, but otherwise I don’t cook often. Actually I don’t think it is difficult to follow some recipes but unfortunately as I mentioned, I didn’t write it down, but with some imaginations you can invent similar ones.

I am here to raise your attention of what amazing things you can do in Taormina, Sicily, Italy besides seeing the sights and going to the beaches, which is great too but still, something else, something different can be always exciting.
